CONCACAF Gold Cup 2017 | Raymond James | Tampa
The Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) will be holding the GOLD CUP in Tampa Bay this year. With all the buzz surrounding the games, these match ups are going to be HUGE! The two matches that are taking place at the Raymond James Stadium are just 2 out of 18 total matches for the Cup. This tournament is anticipated to be one of the hottest events of the summer.
CONCACAF was formed in 1961 and since then, Mexico and the United States have dominated and Canada won once, in 2000. Originally, the tournament was called the CONCACAF Championship, until 1990 when they discontinued the Championship and created the Gold Cup. There are 12 teams that partake in the event, with the current champion being Mexico; the most successful team in the league. They recently announced the expansion from 12 teams to 16, come 2019, but have not given any indication as to who the new competitors will be.
